This project was created in 2 stages. The first stage was creating the moving step feature, and the second, the audio reactive ball in the centre.
To start I used the tube SOP to create a polygon hexagon, followed by the copy SOP to create 5 copies scaling down to 0.8x scale with each copy. The Y-axis translation of each copy was moved with a sine wave LFO to create the mechanical breathing effect. A larger base hexagon was also added. This composition was then duplicated, flipped, and a phong material added to allow a slight textured sheen. This was then all rendered, and a circular ramp was added as a background.
The audio reactive ball was created by adapting a Bileam Tschepe/Elekktronaut tutorial that creates an audio reactive PBR material using the audio spectrum CHOPs, and adapting the sound waves into the material parameters. I then applied this material to a sphere, and this created the flowering reactor core aesthetic, and set this geometry to be rendered along with the hexagonal plates.
